How it all started

Waterloo Blue officially began May 2015

Late one night at my computer, I came across a job posting on a WordPress forum. Their WordPress site was showing, “Error Establishing Database connection.” I thought to myself “I know this! I can help!”. I got the job and delivered within a few minutes. They were so happy to have their website back. I could feel their joy and excitement knowing they didn’t lose their hard work. It felt great to help them, so I found another job ad. Before I knew it, I had served over 150 happy customers and over half of them have come back for repeat business! Don’t just take my word for it, check out what they have to say here .

The time that I needed a developer

Hi, my name is Chris and I’m the founder of Waterloo Blue. Before this company began, I was launching a custom menswear business and we were in need of a website. We googled E-commerce and came across a lot of good options. There was Shopify, Volution, Big Commerce, Magento and more. As much as these were all great e-commerce options for pop-up shops, we needed our website to do more.

Then we found WordPress themes with WooCommerce. Success! We found a free E-commerce platform! This is the answer we were looking for!

Until… we needed a developer. We tried plugin after plugin to make adjustments but the website became slow with too many plugins. Then we came across error after error in WordPress or WooCommerce. We didn’t know what we were doing.

So we contacted a couple agencies and we were quoted between $20,000 – $100,000 to build the website we wanted. It wasn’t an ideal solution for a startup company. So I did what any entrepreneur would do, I taught myself how to become a developer.

I spent hours at the computer reading php files and html files. I read documentation files cover to cover to find the functions that I needed to call. I built a home server and began testing scripts and commands to see what I could do. I spent months learning how to repair different types of errors. By the time the smoke cleared, I emerged a WordPress Guru.
